Bali-Inspired Bliss

Display homes open at Haven

A HOUSE inspired by a Bali holiday will be one of two display homes officially opened to the public at Haven today.

Doors will open at 10am at the estate by Ellis Developments at 3 Castleview Lane, Garbutt, and there will be a sausage sizzle, music, giveaways, financial advice and an art project to entertain the kids.

The Bali-inspired Huntington display home will be open for inspection and has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage, three outdoor living spaces and a swimming pool.

The home was designed by interior designer Pam Ellis who said Bali helped to inspire the look and feel of the home.

“I used muted tones to bring the sand and sea into the home,” she said.

“For example, the internal doors are muted blue, the walls are sand coloured, and the front door is a dose of sunshine.

“Following the Bali holiday theme, I used very neutral colours, with lots of texture. The coffee table was the hero piece for the living room, and everything else compliments that relaxed vibe.”

Following feedback from clients that many display homes in Townsville are not affordable for the average buyer, Ellis Developments decided to build a display home that demonstrated a boutique home for under $400,000.

The Tivoli Tre will also be opened to the public for the first time today. The home is unique and designed to suit the lot it sits on.

It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a single-car garage and an additional secured parking space.

It has raked ceilings over 3m high with windows showcasing views of Castle Hill. The quadruple stacked sliding doors open up to blend the indoor and outdoor living areas, while the large outdoor patio captures the easterly breezes.

Haven new home consultant Tammy Baczynski said the home would appeal to budget-conscious young buyers who want to live close to the CBD.

“We kept meeting younger clients with the same requests,” she said. “They were interested in a new build to lock in the First Home Buyers Grant but also wanted to stay close to the CBD while staying in the $350,000-$400,000 price range.

“A few years ago, these same types of clients would be driven to buy an apartment in town.”

Magical Reno- South Townsville Nelson House

Magical reno in South Townsville

Christie Anderson

Bulletin Article 160817.jpg

WHAT was once a home showing the signs of age and neglect has been transformed into a stunning Queenslander seamlessly blending character features and modern style.

The four-bedroom home at 31A Nelson St in South Townsville (pictured) was transformed over a 12-month period by interior designer Pam Ellis.

She had planned to live in the home herself but after her husband Stephen Ellis, owner of Ellis Developments, refused to shift from their inner-city apartment the home was listed for sale.

“I was designing this home for myself so a professional woman in her mid-40s who just wants everything the exact way she wants it,” she said.

“In the walk-in wardrobe there is jewellery drawers, a dedicated hanging trouser area so I’ve gone into so much detail.

“I wanted it to be open plan and just really light and airy.

“The kitchen is the Hamptons style because it’s a really fresh look and I’ve made it a chef’s kitchen with a commercial tap and soft-close drawers.

“The luxurious master suite is like a hotel suite so that you wouldn’t have to leave if you didn’t want to”.

The project was Mrs Ellis’s 19th renovation.

The home is being sold by Julie Mahoney from Harcourts Kingsberry Townsville and will go to auction on September 5.

First home buyers will also be eligible for the Government’s first homeowner’s grant because more than 90 per cent of the home is brand new.

The house gives a respectful nod to yesteryear while including modern luxury features such as a Silestone kitchen with butler’s pantry, master bedroom with ensuite featuring a freestanding bath and big rear deck.

The outside of the home has retained the Queenslander charm while inside the signature high ceilings, timber flooring, tongue and groove panelling, timber fretwork and archways have been retained.

Mrs Ellis said she was thrilled with the result and she had loved listening to everyone’s comments at the first open home.

“It’s been a bit of a childhood dream to restore a beautiful Queenslander and when I saw it on the market 12 months ago it had so much potential and I was so delighted when I got it,” she said.

“I was doing renovations over in Europe when I met Stephen and over there it’s all 100-year-old properties so we were working on houses of similar vintage to this one.

“The quality timbers in the original house was just amazing.”
